How it works
A mock test on the real roads around your centre, marked like the real one.
What happens on a drive
- Pick where to start. Your test centre, a town or a postcode in England, Scotland or Wales. Real roads, speed limits, lights and crossings.
- Answer a tell me question before you move off.
- Follow the examiner's directions. Along the way: a show me question, and maybe a pull up on the left or a controlled stop.
- Finish and replay. Drives last 5, 10, 20 or 40 minutes. You pull up at the end and get your result on a map.
These aren't real test routes, as the DVSA doesn't publish them. They're the same roads your examiner can choose from.
Controls
A keyboard works best. On a phone or tablet, steer with the on-screen wheel, arrows or tilt, and tap a mirror to check it.
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| W / S | Accelerate and brake. The gearbox is automatic. |
| A / D | Steer left and right |
| Z / C | Left and right indicator. It cancels itself after a turn, and X cancels it by hand. |
| Space | Check the interior mirror |
| Q / E, tap | Check the left or right door mirror |
| Q / E, hold | Look over your left or right shoulder, for junctions and blind spots |
| P | Parking brake |
| R | Reverse gear, when you're stopped |
| B, N, G | Horn, dipped headlights and windscreen washer, for show me questions |
| V | Switch between the chase camera (behind the car, the default) and the cockpit |
| Esc | Pause, or end the drive |
What the examiner marks
The DVSA's driving competencies, by the examiner's app's names. A driving fault is minor, a serious fault could have been dangerous, and a dangerous fault was.
| Competency | Driving fault | Serious or dangerous |
|---|---|---|
| Move off - Safety | Moving off from parked without checking your mirrors and right blind spot | Serious if you move off into the path of a vehicle |
| Use of mirrors | Turning, or slowing down from over 20 mph, without a mirror check in the few seconds before | None |
| Signals | No signal, the wrong signal, a late signal, or leaving the indicator on after a junction | None |
| Junctions - Observation | Emerging at a give way or stop line without looking both ways. At a roundabout, you need to look right. | Serious if you emerge at over 15 mph without looking, or into approaching traffic |
| Junctions - Approach speed | Turning at over 18 mph | Serious over 26 mph |
| Traffic lights | Going through on amber when you could have stopped | Serious on red, or moving off on red and amber. Dangerous over 25 mph |
| Traffic signs | None | Serious for not stopping at a stop line, going the wrong way down a one-way street, or entering a road closed to traffic |
| Pedestrian crossings | Not stopping for someone waiting at a zebra crossing | Serious for not giving way to someone on it. Dangerous if you hit them |
| Use of speed | Over the speed limit for 3 seconds | Serious at more than 7 mph over. Dangerous above one and a half times the limit |
| Following distance | Less than a 1 second gap to the vehicle in front | Serious under half a second |
| Positioning | Driving on the right, or straddling the centre line | Serious on the right towards oncoming traffic |
| Control - Steering | Clipping the kerb | Serious for mounting the pavement or hitting something |
| Progress | Driving far below the limit on a clear road, or waiting when it's clear to go | None |

Pass or fail
You pass with 15 driving faults or fewer and no serious or dangerous faults.
Any serious or dangerous fault, or a 16th driving fault, is a fail, as on the real test.
- Driving fault
- Serious fault
- Dangerous fault
The replay map
Your route, with a numbered pin for each fault. Pick a fault to light up its pin.
Serious faults carry an S and dangerous ones a D, so colour isn't needed. Replays aren't saved.
